Women's Basketball signs Damia Covington from Hayti
Central Christian College of the Bible head women's basketball coach Reggie Chapple on Tuesday announced the signing of Damia Covington for the 2017-18 season. Covington is the second member of the Saints' 2017 class.
Covington, a 5-9 forward, is a 2017 graduate of Hayti High School in Hayti, Mo. A four-year starter for the Lady Indians, Covington helped orchestrate a turnaround of the Hayti girls basketball program that went from just four wins in 2015-16 to 11 wins and a district championship appearance in 2016-17.
Covington averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks per game as a senior. She was named All-Bootheel Conference her last two seasons, and earned all-distrcit honors as a senior. In addition to basketball, Covington was a state qualifier in the 300-meter low hurdles.
"I am excited Damia is joining our program," Chapple said. "She will be able to contribute as we begin building the foundation for our program. She is a hard worker and loves the game of basketball. I look forward to seeing her development as a member of the Saints."
While at CCCB, Covington plans to pursue a Bachelor of Religious Studies and a dual enrollment degree from a partner institution.
Convington joins Hunter Salmons of Madison, Mo., as members of the Saints' 2017 recruiting class.
