The Lady Saints made a memorable showing despite coming up short in the third place match of the 2014 Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament in Moberly.

Lady Saints ride energy, nearly pull off pair of upsets in MCCC Tournament

CCCB senior played her final game in a CCCB volleyball uniform on Saturday. She earned all-MCCC second team honors during the MCCC Tournament hosted in Moberly.MOBERLY, Mo. – The Central Christian College of the Bible women's volleyball team made a strong showing in front of their home fans at the 2014 Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament, giving fourth-ranked Ozark Christian College and No. 10 Faith Baptist Bible College all they wanted before finishing in fourth place on Saturday.

Top seed Ozark Christian went on to win the two-day tournament held in the Ferneau Center of CCCB's Pelfrey Hall. They knocked off No. 2 seed Manhattan Christian in five sets, winning the fifth and decisive frame, 19-17. The No. 3 seed, Faith Baptist Bible, defeated the fourth-seeded Lady Saints, 3-2, in the third place match. No. 5 seed Calvary Bible College topped Emmaus Bible College for fifth place.

The Lady Saints (7-14) wrapped up their season by winning one of three matches in the tournament. The CCCB women defeated Calvary Bible, 3-0, in their opening round match, then faced eventual MCCC regular season and tournament champion Ozark Christian in the nightcap.

The Lady Saints found a spark late in the first set and rode that momentum throughout their final two matches of the tournament to make it tough on their ranked opponents. They took the second set, 25-19, and held a six-point lead late in the third set before the Lady Ambassadors rallied to win, 25-23. Ozark Christian went to claim a 3-1 victory by winning the fourth set, 25-19.

Playing for third place on Saturday, Faith Baptist Bible took the first two sets before the Lady Saints again found their energy and dominated the third and fourth frames, 25-16 and 25-12. However, Faith Baptist Bible jumped out to an early lead in the final set and went on to claim a 15-8 victory to clinch third place.

Senior Kelsi Mueller, who played her final volleyball match in a Lady Saints uniform, and freshman Tressa Terry both earned all-MCCC second team honors. As a team, the CCCB women earned the league's Sportsmanship Award for the third straight season.
