Souders named new women's volleyball coach

MOBERLY, Mo. - Central Christian College of the Bible and Athletic Director Jack Defreitas are pleased to announce the hiring of Kelsey Souders as the new women's volleyball head coach of the Saints.

Souders, a 2016 graduate of Central Christian and a Saints volleyball alum, takes over for Mazie Sinlee, who stepped down after the 2015 season.

"I am excited for Kelsey and I am excited for us," Defreitas said. "This will be her first head coaching opportunity, but I believe she will do great from the start and continue to grow into the position each and every day. Kelsey has a lot of strong leadership qualities and will do an excellent job of leading our young women on and off the court."

Souders played three seasons of volleyball for the Saints. In her three years on the court, the team had its best finish in 2014 when Central Christian won seven matches and played for third place in the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament. She will look to improve a program that won only three matches a year ago.

At Franklin Community High School in Franklin, Ind., Souders was a standout on the swimming team. She had planned to attend college on a swimming scholarship heading into her senior year of high school, but a shoulder injury resulted in a change of plans and she eventually landed at Central Christian, where her two older sisters, Whitney and Samantha, had attended. She plans to lean on her competitive swimming background and collegiate volleyball experience in leading the Saints.

"I am very excited to coach this team because I love any opportunity to encourage and motivate others," Souders said. "I hope to help the young women set and achieve their own personal goals, as well as our shared team goals. My hope for this season is that we grow together as a competitive volleyball team, as well as working on a deeper relationship with Jesus and each other."

Souders holds a Bachelor of Science in Christian Counseling from CCCB.
